A few months ago I tried to write some custom rewrites rules for a project I was working on to make the URL’s reflect the relationship between post types. I spent a few days on it and failed miserably. I like to think I’m a pretty good developer, but the Rewrites API is were I met my match.
After that experience I found myself saying “there really aught to be a visual editor for WordPress permalinks.” It was a rhetorical rant really. Well until I made a crude drawing of the idea and showed it to our lead developer David Cramer.
Now it’s a thing and it’s beautiful. We call it Caldera URL Builder.
